Making Your First Appointment

Please call 03 9853 7700 and one of our friendly treatment coordinators will help you to make an appointment.

Do I Need a Referral?

Most patients are referred to us by their dentist or medical practitioner. However, you may make an appointment at Kew Periodontics and Dental Implants without having a referral.

Some of the signs of gum disease include bleeding gums, red swollen gums, bad breath, loose teeth, receding gums and sensitive teeth. Unfortunately, some of these signs are not obvious until the disease has reached an advanced stage.

If you are concerned that yourself or a family member may have gum disease, or would like an opinion about periodontal or implant treatment options, please call 03 98537700 to request an appointment.

We are also happy to see family members and friends of existing patients without a referral.

Your First Visit

At your first visit, Dr Allison Dean or Dr Louise Liu will talk with you to establish the reason for your referral, your concerns and goals of treatment. They will then carry out a very thorough dental examination, which includes an assessment of the health of your gums. It may be necessary to take clinical photographs and organise x-rays to be taken. If you are in pain some treatment may be started on the day.

The Periodontist will clearly explain the findings of your examination and discuss your treatment options. They will also take the time to answer any questions that you may have.

A detailed report will be sent to your dentist and if appropriate, your medical doctor and any other specialists involved in your care. This will help to ensure that we can work together to best look after you.

What You Need to Bring

  1. Your dentist or medical practitioner may have given you a referral letter and/or x-rays. Please bring these with you to your first visit.
  1. We will send you an important form to fill in once you have called to arrange your appointment. This form includes information regarding your personal details and medical history. Please complete the form and bring it with you to your first visit.
  1. If you have been advised by your doctor or medical specialist to take antibiotics prior to receiving dental treatment (e.g. following a hip replacement or due to a heart condition) please take the required dose of antibiotics one hour prior to your first visit.
